Festivalen, is a piece based entirely on the Norwegian speech melodies of the Dutch/Norwegian cellist Annie Tangberg reading an excerpt from Lars Saabye Christensen's novel Halvbroren (The Half Brother). In the excerpt, Barnum, the central character of the novel, awakes disorientated in a hotel in Berlin and gradually tries to piece together the reality his senses present to him. The piece, composed for Annie Tangberg and Niels Meliefste's Duo Percucello is however not so much intended as an illustration of the text but rather an exploration of its shapes and rhythms.
