Festivalen, composed for Duo Percucello, is a piece based around a recording of the (Dutch/Norwegian) cellist Annie Tangberg reading an excerpt from Lars Saabye Christensen's novel Halvbroren (The Half Brother).

In the excerpt, Barnum, the central character of the novel, awakes disorientated in a hotel in Berlin and gradually tries to piece together the reality his senses present to him. The piece is however not intended as an illustration of the excerpt from the novel. It is rather an exploration of the speech-melodies inherent in the spoken text and an attempt to bring them to the fore, an exploration of how they might be used as the point of departure for a piece of instrumental music.
